Glad to see you back today after yesterday explanation of “(Breeze – Straight) Single Series Day 3 out of 31: Beat Post Production” where I give you my method of understand how I do the finishing touch of my beats using my genre template.

Now today, I want to explain to you a process that I typically do for myself and for other artist who would purchase my beats which is to make several  reference tracks for myself.

What is a reference track?

The goal is a reference track is to create a sound, style, and unpolished song to give an artist an over all vibe that an artist aim to create for their track.

There is a saying that says good artist create but great artist steal and in this case it may not be in the factor of stealing but, there is absolutely nothing wrong with not starting from scratch.

At least, in the eyes of a hustler such as myself.

If my main purpose and goal is to make great art for my fanbase with the aid of the beginning point of someone who could be considered an assistant to my work, then I say reference tracks are the best way towards such a successful start of great art.

Why Use Reference Tracks?

If you were offered the fastest way to get to a million dollars, would you take the fastest route or would you want to follow in the footsteps of a millionaire?

As a hustler, I personally rather be more on the side of creative by adding my personal spin on a winning formula than to be innovative and broke.

Innovation has its place in the world for sure as a means to achieve being first in the world to do something and it is commendable it only if you’ve already achieved massive financial success.

Elon musk, Jeff Bezos, Andrew Carnegie, and many other real life Batman type figures should be on the side of innovation and doing something completely new that has never been seen before but if you are no where close to those people’s financial success then artist like myself are within the realm of financial potential and possibility rather than on the pathway to sustainable success.

Reference tracks are nothing more or less than a simple part of a winning formula that has existed in the music industry and to reject such a way towards your success is to place a block in front of your own prosperity.

As an artist, producer, author, and overall polymath, I understand that there will always be people who can do things better than I can but if I allow myself to let my ego become the frontline of my emotional focus then I know my finances will suffer.

What I typically do for all of the beats I make is create at the very least 5 different types of references tracks before I even think of making a song.

I do this to to push my boundaries as to what I would create if I had to sit there and write the song myself from scratch.

While this may seem weird when it’s simply making a reference track for myself which would make you think that it makes no sense or should make no difference to what I do but this is where you would underestimate my creative ability.

I can rap, sing, and chant(use an island accent) to create several different references tracks for every beat I create.

What this does is give me several different angles to be creative on one song.

It also allows me to take ideas from several different flows, cadences, melodies, choruses, and lyrics together from each different reference track by picking and choosing what I feel will serve you better.

It’s like a all you can eat buffet for song writing.

It’s setting a benchmark for excellence in my own unique and innovative way.

It also gives me a psychological advantage through a confidence boost of knowing I can achieve success without having to start from the beginning.

How I Create My Reference Tracks: The Freestyle Method

Every song that I create, I freestyled the lyrics, melodies, chorus, and much more.

Freestyling is the best way that I have found to be more creative in my melody and lyrics creation.

Freestyling can sometimes come out like gibberish due to not being able to put words together well but the melody decisions that will be used.

A great method that I use within the reference tracks as a means to be as creative as possible is to explore difference pitches when creating a song. 

Sometimes freestyling creates different types of melodies that can even reflect on the beat at times.

I will hear something and decide it would be better to make a breakdown here on the beat to help match a certain vocal reflection.

A great advantage that I have over other artist is in the fact that I created the beat and have direct access to change the beat to match the lyrics and flow.

Freestyling over a beat gives Breeze the freedom of being more versatile in the approach to the creation of verse and lyrical content.

The 5 reference track I make for myself also serves as a means to reproduce the track to what would be able to best serve fans.

Why is freestyling over tracks better than sitting down and writing?

Have you ever heard the saying “It’s not that you say it, it’s how you say it?”

This may be my personal preference but sitting down and thinking about lyrics is the long way of song creation.

As an independent artist, creating a cover song may be one of the most important things that you can do in order to help create revenue not only for me but for yourself.

This can be one of the most important ways you can show homage for the songwriter and recording artist.

One of the most popular covers songs that has ever been created and generated tons of income is Whitney Houston – I will always love you which was originally written and performed by Dolly Parton.

I grew up only knowing the Whitney Houston Version being too young to knew the Dolly Parton chart climbing original.
