Part 2 of 28 Loose Ends Single Series: Beat Pre-Production

The Making Of The Beat

Beat Construction

Bpm 119

Breeze set the bpm to what the bar count that was in my mind to make the beat and song.

Scale

The scale used to construct the song is the A-Minor scale. Most chords and melodies are used on that scale except in some spot to create tension to the sound.

Pre-Production

After choosing every sound, Breeze make sure to adjust the level of the sound itself before adjusting it with the mixer so that, if the sound is peaking within the sound itself will come out a cleaner mix in it’s own space due to not having to lower the sound in the mixer with a bad signal. It’s better to turn up a sound that’s lower than turn it down because it’s the way too high and Breeze put every sound in the same root key.

Closed Hi Hat

Breeze Added Izotope Imager to make the hats wider sounding to the Hi-Hat and EQ’d the Hihat to give it it’s own space in the mix and it panned 25% to the left in the Mix. The Closed hi Hats that are found throughout the song Chorus, Breeze added 25% of the sound to an Aux Channel with a Set Reverb to keep everything in the same place in the mix and make the sound not as dry.

Open Hit Hat

The Open High hat is only found the Chorus and Breeze Eq’d it to make it sound more solid in the mix. Breeze added it to an Aux Channel with 25% on a Set Reverb to keep everything in the same place in the mix and make the sound not as dry.

Trap Snares

Breeze put 2 different snares that accent each other to make a bigger sound and sound more full and used throughout the song with one panned 25% right and 25 % left. Breeze added the snares to an Aux Channel with 10% on a Set Reverb to keep everything in the same place in the mix and make the sound not as dry.

Percussion Crash

One of Breeze signature sound’s the Orch Crash found in the Chorus was panned 10% to the left. Breeze added it to an Aux Channel with 25% on a Set Reverb to keep everything in the same place in the mix and make the sound not as dry.

Piano

Breeze used the Digipiano from Nexus and took off all the effects from the sound itself to add my own effects such as Eqing the sound to make it sound tighter in the mix and Adding a compressor on the sound to make it more compact. Breeze added it to an Aux Channel with 50% on a Set Reverb to keep everything in the same place in the mix and make the sound not as dry.

Pad

Breeze gave the beat a pad to add a scary feeling in the background and made it very subtle while the EQ it to cut out the access sound. Breeze added it to an Aux Channel with 30% on a Set Reverb to keep everything in the same place in the mix and make the sound not as dry.

Rhodes Piano

Breeze added a Rhodes Piano to the verse and Eq’d it in a way to make it sound more sad and compact and added a delay to make it sound wider. Breeze added it to an Aux Channel with 25% on a Set Reverb to keep everything in the same place in the mix and make the sound not as dry.

Cursed Bell

Breeze put the bell in some parts of the verse and in the chorus, EQ’d it in a weird way to make it sound different, add Automation so that when it plays the pitch bends, and added Gross Beat Slow Tripplet effect to give it a different sound. Breeze added it to an Aux Channel with 25% on a Set Reverb to keep everything in the same place in the mix and make the sound not as dry.

Created Piano

Breeze created a piano (best way to describe it) sound using ElectraX with a main sound in the front has a bell type sound and in the background has a sad pad type sound that was EQ’d to sound good in the mix and used in some chorus and verses, Compressed so it wouldn’t sound as messy, and add Gross Beat Slow Tripplet effect for a different sound. Breeze panned the sound 30% to the left and added it to an Aux Channel with 27% on a Set Reverb to keep everything in the same place in the mix and make the sound not as dry.

Created Piano 2

Breeze created a piano (best way to describe it) sound using ElectraX used as a higher A Minor Octave Chord used only in the verses was EQ’d to cut out all lower frequencies and add Gross Beat Slow Tripplet effect to give it a different sound. Breeze panned the sound 30% to the right and added it to an Aux Channel with 30% on a Set Reverb to keep everything in the same place in the mix and make the sound not as dry.

Drum Sub Kick

Breeze added a subwoofer kick that I shorten the sound in the Envelope section to shorten the tail of my kick and Breeze EQ’d it to tighten the sound. Breeze connects the kick to the 808 with a limiter so when played, the frequencies don’t clash with the 808 frequencies when they play at the same time.

808 Bass

Breeze added a Fruity Limiter to add the side chain effect to make sure the kick and the 808 don’t crash when played together, EQ’d the 808 to cut the upper frequencies and added Ozone Exciter to add higher frequencies to the sound. Breeze added distortion to the 808 to make the sound grittier.
